How to Restore from JetBackup

JetBackup is a subsystem that offers you the ability to restore your entire account or part of it to a previous date’s backup via web browser. It also gives you the ability to download a selected backup locally.

Regarding our backups, we also suggest you review our backup policy here.

Below we present brief instructions on how you can log in to JetBackup and restore your entire account or part of it. We also show you how to download a previous backup of your account locally to your computer.

Logging in to JetBackup

First, we log in to JetBackup:

  • For dedicated servers, you will find the JetBackup link in the “Welcome kit” you received at the start of your hosting.

  • For shared hosting servers, you log in from the DirectAdmin panel by going to Extra Features / JetBackup

Restore or Download Our Entire Account

To restore our entire account to a backup from a previous date, we go to the second option in the left column concerning “Restore & Download”. There, going to the “Full Account” tab, we select the desired date and click “Restore” if we want to restore our account or click “Download” if we want to download the entire specific backup.

CAUTION: The restore will delete all the files you currently have in the folder and will place the restore files there. In case you have created any new files after the date you are restoring to, these will not return after the restoration process is completed.

Restore Individual Files and Folders

To recover only selected files from our website to a backup from a previous date, we go to the second option in the left column concerning “Restore & Download”. There, going to the “Home Directory” tab, we can select the desired date and click the “Change Files Selection” button to select specific folders or files for restoration.

Navigation through folders is done by clicking on them or by clicking on “Current Path” located at the top left, and the selection of folders/files to be restored is done by selecting the checkbox located to their left.
Once we have selected the files we want, we click the “Select Files” button.

For example, above, one file (wp-config.php) has been selected for restoration.
Next, we click the “Restore” button to restore the specific file we selected or “Download” to save the file locally to our computer.
We confirm our decision by clicking the “Restore Selected Items” button.

CAUTION: The restore will delete the files and folders you have selected and will restore in their place the files and folders from the restore.

Then we are automatically taken to the queue, where we see the progress of the restore. There we can also see previous actions from restores and downloads that have been done. Once the process is completed, the message “Completed” appears.

Download Individual Files and Folders

We can also use JetBackup to save data that exists in our account from a backup of our choice to our computer.

For example, from the Dashboard we select Full Backups. Once we select the desired date, we can see the entire contents of the specific backup. From there, by clicking the “Download” button, the contents of the backup that we will download are displayed. By clicking Remove items, we remove data from the backup that we don’t want to download. Next, we click the “Download Selected Items” button.

Next, we are taken to the queue where we observe the progress of the Download job.

Finally, we go to Downloads from the left column and download the most recent entry.
A compressed folder containing the data we selected will be downloaded locally to our computer.

We remind you that with JetBackup you can restore one of the available previous backups of your account, but not take a new backup yourself.

If you want to take a new backup, see our article specifically for the DirectAdmin panel here. Alternatively, if you have a dedicated server, you can request a new backup from us through our helpdesk.
