More Than Web Hosting: Dedicated People, Thoughtful Vision, Expertise & Technology You Can Trust

Case Study: Speed Improvement on a Custom PHP eShop – comfort.com.gr

A clothing eShop with a large product catalog and intense commercial activity, comfort.com.gr has been developed and is running on custom PHP. Before the website moved to our infrastructure, every time a marketing campaign drove a surge in traffic, the existing hosting proved inadequate.

The result? Slow response times at the exact moment the customers were ready to buy during a major promotion, poor user experience, and a gradual drop in Google’s organic rankings, where Core Web Vitals are now a critical ranking factor.

In November 2025, comfort.com.gr migrated to TrustServers’ Managed Dedicated Hosting.

We didn’t change a single line of code on the website, because the application wasn’t the problem.

What we did change, however, was the entire infrastructure:

  • Dedicated hardware sized to the eShop’s actual needs
  • Optimizations at every level of the stack, from the operating system kernel all the way to the top layer of the hosting
  • Leveraging the high-performance NGINX web server with proper configuration and tuning
  • Targeted database optimizations tailored to the specific needs of this web application and the volume of its data
  • 24/7 technical support from our team, continuously monitoring, adjusting, and optimizing

The positive impact on speed was felt from the very first moment, upgrading the browsing experience and, most importantly, was reflected in the speed measurements of real users. The field data (Real User Monitoring) recorded by Google confirmed that comfort.com.gr “went green” across all devices (desktop, mobile, tablet), eliminating the performance instability of the past.

The data from the Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) captures the real picture before and after the migration to TrustServers. The values below correspond to the percentage of users who experienced performance within the “good” (green) zone for each Core Web Vital:

Core Web Vitals Improvement on the eShop

Below we break down the three main Core Web Vitals metrics (FCP, LCP, and TTFB) and present the improvement Google recorded for comfort.com.gr after the migration to our infrastructure.

First Contentful Paint (FCP)

The FCP metric measures the time it takes for the first visible content element to appear on the user’s screen. Google defines an excellent FCP as under 1.8 seconds (🟢 Green), while times over 3 seconds are considered problematic (🔴 Red).

For comfort.com.gr, the percentage of users with “green” FCP exceeded 90%. At the same time, an improvement of approximately 78% was recorded in the “orange” and “red” zones.

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)

The LCP metric measures the time required for the largest visible content element of a website to appear on the screen. Google considers LCP performance excellent when the loading time is under 2.5 seconds (🟢 Green). Conversely, times above 4 seconds fall into the problematic range (🔴 Red).

For comfort.com.gr, the percentage of users with “green” LCP increased from 67.8% before the migration to 87.5%. Slow loads (“orange” and “red”) also improved by approximately 61%.

Time to First Byte (TTFB)

The TTFB metric measures the server’s response time, specifically the time it takes for the server to send the first data (the first byte) to the browser. It is the defining metric of hosting performance, as it directly affects all other speed metrics. According to Google, a response time under 0.8 seconds is considered excellent (🟢 Green), while values above 1.8 seconds fall into the problematic range (🔴 Red).

The improvement in TTFB after the migration to our infrastructure in November is remarkable. “Green” TTFB rose from ~50% to ~83%, while “orange” and “red” improved by approximately 67%. Specifically, we achieved an improvement of approximately 85% in slow loads (“red”).

From Speed to Sales

In modern e-commerce, speed and availability play a decisive role in the sales and revenue of online stores. Every second of website unavailability or loading delay can cause a visitor to abandon the site and their shopping cart.

For comfort.com.gr, the migration to TrustServers’ Managed Dedicated Hosting didn’t just bring “green” Core Web Vitals scores. It delivered an eShop that responds instantly even during intense, high-traffic influencer campaigns. It builds customer trust, and safely guides the visitor through to checkout. At the same time, the improvement in Core Web Vitals ensures better organic ranking on Google (SEO).

The takeaway? Even a fully custom-built PHP eShop can achieve top-tier performance, scalability, resilience, and reliability, provided there is the right hosting infrastructure and the appropriate server management with the know-how and experience required to support it.
